Mnajdra and Hagar Qim, Malta’s prehistoric temples, are amongst the very oldest stone buildings in the world and all are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Built between 3600BC and 2500BC, they are much older than Stonehenge and significantly more sophisticated, with multiple rooms, monumental doorways, stone furniture and statuary. At Mnajdra there are three temples next to each other and the largest is quite typical in construction and layout. Hagar Qim (closer to the entrance) is interesting precisely because it is atypical.
