Spend a day exploring Lisbon from the magnificent Jeronimos Monastery and Torre de Belem, take a romantic stroll through Praca do Comercio alongside the harbour or perhaps wander the botanical gardens of Monserrate Palace. Discover fascinating art and culture at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum and the contemporary pieces at Museu Colecao Berardo.

Take the opportunity to discover the beautiful nearby Sintra Mountains, which are approximately 50km from Torres Vedras. A popular site to visit is the Moors Castle in Sintra. The 9th Century Castle is settled high amongst the forests of the Sintra Mountains. Visitors can enjoy walking along the fortified stone walls which offer the most stunning views across the valley and town of Sintra. Less than 200m from Moors Castle the fairy-tale, 19th Century Pena Palace cannot be missed with its brightly painted turrets and contrasting coloured walls which stand predominantly against the lush green forest.

Portugal is famous for its fabulous beaches, intriguing coves, and rugged coastlines. Near Sintra spend the day at Praia Grande beach to enjoy an expansive stretch of soft sand, with excellent waves for those wanting to catch the surf. It’s a wonderful beach for the whole family as there are plenty of activities, restaurants and bars to fulfil your day. Explore the cliff edge surrounding the beach to see if you can discover over 60 dinosaur footprints, which are believed to be dated from around 100 million years ago. Quite impressive for a day out at the beach! A little further afield a day trip to the wonderful Fort of São João Baptista das Berlengas is surely worth a visit simply for the photo opportunities available there.
