The Highland in miniature
The breath-taking beauty of the Trossachs, known as the “Highlands in miniature”, attracts visitors to enjoy miles of nature trails for hiking, cycling, and horse-riding. The Loch itself offers fun water activities including boating, fishing and windsurfing from the Lochside marina.
Sir Walter Scott described the loch as “an enchanting sheet of water” in his 1817 novel, Rob Roy. On the south side of the loch discover the ruins of a castle, built by Duke of Albany who was executed for treason by James I in 1425.
Just over 4 miles from MacDonald Forest Hills is the enchanting village of Aberfoyle, lying on the banks of the River Forth and surrounded by the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. A few hundred yards from the village the Lodge Forest Visitors Centre is an excellent start to enjoy pleasant walks with magnificent views and a wondrous waterfall. Experience close encounters with the wildlife with cleverly designed CCTV cameras. For golf enthusiasts, visit the Aberfoyle Golf Club, the heathland course here was established in 1890 and boasts some of the most spectacular scenery around the course.
