Antigua Village Beach Club
Example Booking: 26,600 eXpectations points, 7-nights, May 2017, 1-bed, sleeps 4
When it comes to the World’s best destinations for the perfect beach holiday the Caribbean island of Antigua is a firm contender for a place in any Top 10. This tropical paradise lays claim to 365 beaches (one for every day of the year) and exudes a vibe as warm as the sun and as friendly as the locals. Powdery white sands meet seas so vividly turquoise you might just have to pinch yourself to believe they’re real! Now all you need is your swimsuit and a towel.
Available on RCI.com on 13th of March 2017 were 7 nights (from the 20th May 2017) at the Antigua Village Beach Club in a 1-bedroom unit for the almost comical price of just 26,600 points. To put it another way, for members of eXpectations Plus, the equivalent cost is just a shade under £450!
With a prime beach-front location and TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence (2016) the value for money here is almost too good to be true. Yep! We know. That’s why we’re particularly pleased that we came across this when searching for a holiday for our recently appointed Holiday Correspondent, Hermione Way. Hermione and her young family will be jetting off to Antigua on this holiday in May 2017 and will be kindly showing us all around whilst she is there.
So, watch this space toward the end of May 2017 for a great insight into an eXpectations Holiday!
With a couple of months yet to go however, let’s take a closer look at what’s to come.
Antigua – Land of 365 Beaches
You’ll start to appreciate Antigua’s physical beauty as you come into land, presuming you’re arriving by plane that is. The deep–green rainforest toward the south of the island contrasts the incredible shades of the sea and white-sandy beaches. However, it’s only once you get off the plane that you will start to appreciate the island’s inner beauty, its people! These perfect hosts wearing infectious smiles are rightly proud of their home, having one of the safest and most family-friendly islands in the Caribbean.
Visiting in May means you should expect some showers although these are mostly over and done with by the time you take cover for some liquid refreshments of your own. With temperatures in the late twenties and early thirties the sun’s heat isn’t too over-bearing either.
Antigua Village Beach Club
Antigua Village Beach Club is set in tropical gardens with the only thing separating it from what is considered one of the Island’s best all-round beaches and jewel-like sea, a white picket fence.
Lying just north of Antigua’s capital, St. Johns, Dickenson Bay is great for swimming & snorkelling amongst all manner of other activities to enjoy its magnificent sea from kayaking, paddle boarding and sailing to jet-skiing and glass-bottom boat trips.
Ranging from studio apartments for 2 to Villas sleeping 8, accommodation is spacious with all units having their own patio or balcony. Individually styled with a comfy and casual feel that will make you right at home, air-conditioning, full kitchen, cable TV & washing machine come as standard along with wireless internet.
On-site facilities here are simple. The resort enjoys its own pool and mini-market but that really is all you’re going to need! Guests have the shortest of strolls to two popular restaurants “Ana’s on the Beach” and “Coconut Grove” between them providing a range of mouth-watering dishes as well as light snacks and cocktails.
An Island Of Real Beauty
You could, perhaps quite happily, not leave Dickenson Bay and return home having had a fantastic holiday if that’s what you want. That said, if you are venturing out to explore the island then we can definitely recommend taking a visit to StingRay City! Here a “fever” of Stingrays have been tamed over several generations by way of daily free-squid! You can actually hold and feed the Stingrays who will eat the squid straight from your hand which makes for a very memorable day.
It’s also definitely worth visiting some of the many other awesome beaches on the Island. A good way to see a number in one day is by taxi, you’ll get some great local insight & history and it won’t cost you a fortune. If you haven’t already befriended a taxi driver by this stage then ask your concierge.
If you want to visit the south of the island, home to English Harbour and Nelson’s Dockyard, then this will take up much of a whole day. The view from Shirley’s Heights has graced many a postcard home and comes alive for a night of Calypso on Sundays. From the north of the island you’ll drive through some rainforest to get there which is (apparently) best experienced on a zip-wire! Once in English Harbour Nelson’s Dockyard will give you a pretty good feel for what the island would have been like during early colonial times, thankfully a world away from the Island now. That said, the surrounding docks still provide harbour to a range of super-elite vessels, providing a blot on the landscape and a visual contradiction to how the locals live, love & laugh!
To highlight the great value of eXpectations Holidays we conducted a price comparison using TripAdvisor to source an equivalent holiday. 7-nights at Antigua Village Beach Club were available on Booking.com during 20th – 27th May 2017 within a 1-bedroom apartment (sleeping 4) for £1,191 inclusive of all fees and taxes (based on 4 people sharing when we looked on 13/3/2017).
In comparison, we found this 7-night holiday at Antigua Village Beach Club during the same dates also within a 1-bedroom apartment (sleeping 4) for 26,600 points on RCI.com (when we looked on: 13/3/2017).
For eXpectations Plus members, the total price for this accommodation (excluding the initial purchase price of your membership / points) would come to £448 (at the time of writing: 13/3/2017). To calculate this we have included: the associated maintenance fees for 26,600 points, 1x annual membership, 1x online RCI exchange fee and a £17 service charge.
|Associated maintenance fees for 26,600 points @ £5.75 per thousand||£152.95|
|1 x eXpectations Annual Membership||£162|
|1 x RCI online exchange Fee||£116|
|Mandatory miscellaneous fees (e.g. tourist tax)||£17|
So, by taking this eXpectations exchange holiday you could have made a potential saving of over £700, based on the comparison above*.
