eXpectations members could have escaped the hustle and bustle of the lead up to Christmas by checking into The Galleon Resort for 7-nights from 16th-23rd December 2017 to relax in a spacious one-bedroom apartment (sleeping 4). When we looked on on the 01.06.17 this break was available for rejuvenation before the festive season for only 36,500 points.

The Galleon is only 3-miles from Key West Island International Airport and the Overseas Highway provides direct access to mainland Florida making it an ideal destination to explore and places the popular attractions of mainland Florida in easy reach.

Get into the spirit of Christmas on the famous Duval Street, with an extravagant choice of chic boutiques, art galleries, restaurants to suit every pallet and numerous fashionable bars. Duval Street is just over 1-mile long and boasts views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico at either end. The Galleon Resort is just a short distance away so it will not be long before you are in the heart of all the excitement.

The home turned museum of the legendary Ernest Hemmingway must be one of the most popular attractions to visit in Key West. Situated in the heart of Old Town Key West you can wander around the beautiful home and gardens of the former Nobel Prize winning author. The house and gardens were the author’s peaceful haven in 1928 for over 10-years and today over 40 cats have taken residency. Take time to admire the well-preserved architecture and Mr Hemmingway’s treasured ornaments, kept in place from a bygone era. The gardens are bursting with colour from hundreds of different species of flowers and trees. Visitors can appreciate the author’s influential work as they enjoy the tranquillity of his home.

The Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservation is paradise for nature lovers. A garden of Eden is home to between 50-60 different species of butterflies and exotic birds flying around a garden filled with beautiful flowers, trees, rock pools and waterfalls. Spend some time in the learning centre to discover the fascinating lives of the beautiful butterflies. The feeling of being surrounded by stunning gardens and the graceful butterflies is truly a unique and relaxing experience. The Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservation was awarded the Certificate of Excellence by satisfied TripAdvisor visitors in 2017.

Key West and Dry Tortugas National Park

A short distance from The Galleon Resort visitors can discover the historic Malloy Square. A place where for over a hundred years, locals and visitors would gather to enjoy the amazing acts from the street performances and browse the shops for a souvenir or hand-made jewellery. Feeling peckish? Indulge in fresh fish and steak dishes, traditional pizza or Cuban cuisine in a wide choice of restaurants, or perhaps people-watch in the delightful cafes. The Square is also a famous meeting point to experience the most spectacular sunsets and enjoy the bustling atmosphere of the street artists showing off their talents of an evening.

Enjoy a day trip to the Dry Tortugas National Park, approximately 70 miles from Key West with direct ferry links. This spectacular 100-square mile park features 7 small islands for you to explore with incredibly blue waters, stunning coral reefs boasting memorable marine life and of course the unmissable Fort Jefferson. Keep your eyes peeled for the 2 metre Leatherback Turtles frequenting these waters as you dive below the surface to discover the Windjammer Wreck before relaxing upon Garden Key beach to soak up the sunshine.

You cannot leave Key West without taking a few photos of the brightly coloured, Southernmost Point buoy, marking the nearest land to Cuba. Visit in the evenings to experience the most awesome sunsets and fabulous sea views.
