The Valley Isle

Maui is known for its outstanding natural beauty, often referred to as “The Valley Isle”. This magical island boasts stunning beaches and golden coves lining turquoise waters, sugar plantations and lush green rainforests nestled between two majestic volcanoes. Maui is a nature lover’s paradise and offers over one thousand years of rich history for visitors to discover.

Immerse yourself in the culture and beauty of Maui by hiking or cycling through the bamboo forests on the Pipiwai Trail in the Haleakala National Park. Learn fascinating past and present facts about Hawaiian culture and discover endangered species existing only on Maui.

Things to do in Maui

Take a once in a lifetime trip to the Haleakala Crater where dramatic volcanic scenery combines with sub-tropical rainforests within the Haleakala National Park. Visit the Haleakala Crater at dawn to experience the most incredible sunrise, although the 2am start may be early for most, the sight of watching the vibrant red sky in the horizon turning orange and lightening the crater is an experience not to be missed.

Discover the rich underwater life of the Hawaiian oceans on a scuba diving or snorkeling excursion. The protected green turtles can often be seen, swim around the beautiful coral reefs to admire the vibrant red Pincushion Sea Stars and bright yellow Raccoon Butterfly Fish, along with many different species of fish and marine plants. Depending on the time of year sightings of the Humpback Whale in their natural environment is an incredible and honorable experience. Should you be lucky you may witness rare sightings of Hawaiian Monk Seals basking in the sun.

Wander along the historic Front Street in Lahaina for great shopping, beautiful architecture, and many quaint restaurants to stop for lunch or a romantic evening meal. Located in the heart of Lahaina stands the magnificent Banyan Tree, the oldest tree in Maui standing nearly 50-feet and nearly a quarter a mile wide with 10 trunks to support its size.

Follow in the historical footsteps at the Lahaina Courthouse, the harbour-side building served for the whaling and shipping industry from the year 1859. In the old days, the Courthouse jail was used to punish the regular smugglers, however, today the jail is an art gallery. Ponder over the many artifacts in the Lahaina Heritage Museum, including old photographs, tools, shipping documents and an unlimited amount of whaling paraphernalia.

Maui has it all, whether you choose to relax under a coconut tree on a picture postcard beach, drive along winding roads through the rainforests to take a dip in a cool waterfall, or simply meander around the shops, relish the fresh food cuisine in beachfront restaurants. If you want to play golf on championship courses then visit Kapalua or enjoy the stunning scenery on an exhilarating zip-line ride. As a special memento, every visitor should not leave Hawaii without learning to make the traditional flower-lei neck garment.
